Welcome to my data analyst portfolio: My Story
My career as a data analyst started in September 2022 when I resigned from my job and went back to school for a Postgraduate diploma in computer science. Prior to this point, I had gotten my Bachelor of Agriculture in Soil Science, worked on a farm that failed, worked in a factory that failed, started a business and also failed myself, and then worked for two years as a data entry clerk and secretary for a Real Estate firm. Jack of all trade, right? Well, it was at that last job I found my true calling.
I collected, cleaned, filed, and managed various amounts and categories of client and company data. I also had the responsibility of keeping the data up to date and easily accessible to the relevant people whenever it would be needed for business meetings or day to day decision making for the firm. From doing all that, I got to really appreciate the value of accurate and up-to-date information in generating insights and making decisions. I also saw the dynamic power it had to make or destroy an entity—man, business or society. Having been a part of those businesses previously that failed, and even owned a production business that failed in its first year, I was quite intrigued by the hows and whereofs of subsequent businesses faring better and thriving, thanks to easy access to valuable information, and the useful insights they would bring. I dreamed of being that instrument that analyses and provides relevant and accurate insights and recommendations that would help businesses thrive.
Now, one year and a few months later, I have only fallen more in love with the world of data and its powers, and have finally summoned the courage to showcase my progress in the field so far using this website. During the course of this time, I have taken professional certification courses in data analytics, binge watched YouTube videos on data analytics and worked on a number of projects using Python, Excel Spreadsheet, SQL and Tableau, to sharpen my skills and build my knowledge. Now, I look forward to getting a Master’s Degree in the field. I know I have a long way to go, and I am glad for how far I have come through.
In the meantime, feel free to check out what I’ve been up to. Be sure to leave a comment to let me know what you think and how I can improve.
Byeee!
